The PTA at Hurst Hills is a very important part of our school thanks to all of our dedicated families, and volunteers. Have you ever thought about being apart of the Executive Board. The members of the executive board are volunteers just like you, who like to get involved with our school. If you are interested in serving on next year’s Executive Board, please reach out to Mrs.Polley who is currently serving as the Nominating Committee Chairman.
These are dates where the school is closed to visitors all day while tests are out or being given to any grade. Please try to avoid going in on these days.
February 8th and 29th -(for those paying attention, both dates have changed)
The first PTA meeting of the year is Tuesday, September 13th with pizza at 6 and a meeting to follow at 6:30. We are currently looking for a person or team to be responsible for the PTA Reflections art contest. The position would start soon but has very little to do after the end of October. Yearbook help and reps to attend council meetings are other possible options for volunteering. Please let us know at or before the meeting if you are interested in helping out. Thank you!
Have you returned your PTA volunteer, t-shirt and membership forms??? Please let us know how you would like to help out this year.

The Hurst Hills yearbook is created by
outstanding Hurst Hills parent and volunteer, Kim Zarko.Kim’s children, Dalton (6th) and Zack (2nd), have
attended Hurst Hills for 7 yrs.She has created the yearbook for SIX years.Because of her generosity, the yearbook has gone from a
budget item that costs the PTA $1,000 to a budget item that costs nothing,
sometimes even generating revenue.
Hurst Hills Elementary is excited to offer TWO Georgeann Gallian Memorial Scholarships in the amount of $500 each to applicants who have attended Hurst Hills Elementary forat least three (3) years.
You must be in good-standing, exhibit good citizenship throughout your school years, and plan to attend a trade school, junior college, or university. Should you receive a full scholarship or grant from another source by September 1, 2011, you will be ineligible for this award. Applications are available at your high school counselor’s office & must be received at Hurst Hills Elementary no later than April 15, 2011.
Whether you volunteer AT the school, or by sending needed items, you enrich the students of Hurst Hills.Time and money count as volunteer time, so don’t forget to count items donated for parties, the teacher’s luncheon, or any other function throughout the school year.
Deadline to enter volunteer contributions:
MARCH 31ST.
After the deadline, you cannot enter any volunteer contributions made prior to the deadline. The volunteer year runs from April 1, 2010 – March 31st, 2011.You may enter volunteer time as far back as last spring NOW.
Volunteer hours are evaluated to determine whether a school may be considered for additional funding sources through grants, etc. These numbers may be utilized not only by our school, but by the district, or even state.Let’s try not to miss out on much-needed funding because we didn’t take a few minutes to report our volunteer efforts.
If you have any questions – lost your ID#, forgotten your password, please contact our volunteer coordinator, Amy Bilbo, at 817-595-2291 or
.She will be more than happy to assist you in getting those hours entered!THANK YOU!
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the recent Clothes Drive, ESPECIALLY to the generous family who donated enough socks to make CRAZYSOCK DAY a reality for all Hurst Hills students!Hurst Hills was among the top producers in the district!

Thanks for the great luncheon volunteer contributions!!
Thank you to Merrell Woolf, Phyllis Almeida, Debbie
Hefner, Amy Bilbo, Alison Freeman, Kathleen Folks, Errin Dunbar, Chanel
Markland, Lisa Fell, Frances Woolf, Valerie Doyle, Amy McGuire, Andrea Wright,

all the drinks, plates, & napkins for the luncheon.
Carra Rau, Kari Leonard, Teresa
Burk, Karen Hopper, Lynda Newman, and Andee Bohlin volunteered during the luncheon (most also
contributed soups), providing much-needed assistance to make the day run as
smoothly as possible.An extra
‘thanks’ goes to Jennifer Kiser,
VP of Hospitality on the PTA Board, for her tremendous efforts that made this
day a huge success.
Our amazing Hurst Hills teachers and staff certainly
felt appreciated on this special day. Thanks to all whose contributions made it a successful reality!
The PTA Board is a VOLUNTARYgroup of parents, teachers, grandparents, or other community volunteers who meet throughout the school year to plan, organize, and implement various functions of PTA/school activities. The Hurst Hills PTA board consists of 8 different positions:
President – oversees operations of PTA
(currently Karen Hopper)
VP of Membership (currently Andee Bohlin)
VP of Projects – coordinates fundraiser and various other projects (currently Carra Rau)
VP of Programs – coordinates PTA meeting content (currently Elissa Polley, K teacher)
VP of Volunteers (currently Amy Bilbo)
VP of Hospitality – coordinates refreshments for PTA events and oversees other activities, such as teacher appreciation week and holiday parties (currently Jennifer Kiser)
Treasurer – responsible for PTA funds
(currently Lesa Rydell)
Secretary – records/reports official meeting minutes from board meetings and general membership meetings (currently Teresa Burk)
Each position requires a one year commitment, and can only be held by the same person for 2 consecutive years before a change is required. Some of the differences you may notice in the way PTA does things at Hurst Hills can be attributed to the change in board members from one year to the next.
You bring your creativity to the position!
Because most of the positions above were filled last year with new individuals who wish to return for a 2nd year, there will only be one or two vacancies to fill the 2011-2012 PTA Board!
If YOU are interested in filling that vacancy, please contact the Nominating Committee Chair,
Jennifer Kiser, at .
Nominees for the 2011-2012 PTA Board will be announced at the March 8th PTA meeting.

Veteran’s Day Assembly & Wall of Honor
November 11, 2010
Thank you to all the veterans and families who participated. A special thanks goes to the Hurst Fire Department’s Honor Guard, to retired Army Colonel, Rick Flores, for educating our students about the importance of Veteran’s Day, and to Sean Almeida and Christopher Bassett for their musical accompaniment. If you were unable to attend the assembly, take a moment to come in the school and see our ‘Wall of Honor’, extending down the hall to the right of the office, toward the gymnasium. It is an incredible sight to see over 230 names and 160 pictures dating back to 1747, all of whom served or are currently serving our country. Thanks to Karen Hopper and Elissa Polley for coordinating this event.
Thank you to the following volunteers for graciously helping with the cookie dough distribution:

The Hurst Hills canned food drive continues through the entire month of November. You may send items in with your child or drop them in boxes located outside the front office. Thank you for your participation!
Caution! Caution!
The tardy bell, parents trying to get to work, teachers trying to get to work, walking students, bike riding students, and more make morning drop off a stressful time of day with many distractions. While there are policies in place in the front drive, it is equally important to proceed slowly and carefully in the back parking lot. If you need to assist your child out of your vehicle and/or walk your student in, PLEASE park in a regular parking spot. When dropping students in the ‘drop off lane’ in the back, request your child(ren) exit your vehicle on the RIGHT side, closest to the school. This will allow the ‘drop off’ lane to continue moving and will keep students safe during the morning rush. Thank you for slowing down to help keep Hurst Hills students safe as they begin their school day!
